Review: OnePlus Buds Pro headphones

Review: OnePlus Buds Pro headphones- The OnePlus Buds Pro are true wireless in-ear headphones with active noise canceling (ANC) function.

OnePlus has some experience producing headphones, with the GRPs already available in the OnePlus Buds and Buds Z line. The OnePlus Buds are modeled after the Apple AirPods. However, this time OnePlus has created their own version of the AirPods Pro. The OnePlus Buds Pro are true wireless in-ear headphones with active noise canceling (ANC) function. They are notable for their great sound quality and battery life, as well as small software features like OnePlus Audio ID and Zen Mode Air.

The main advantages and disadvantages of headphones OnePlus Buds Pro

Disadvantages of headphones OnePlus Buds Pro:

Design

The OnePlus headphones come in an impressive package that is worth assessing. The box contains a charging case, headphones, a short USB cable, and three sizes of rubber bands. You can easily identify them with the iconic OnePlus white and strong red colors.

The headphones themselves come in two colors, glossy white and matte black. The lower part of the headphones is silver, adding an elegant touch to the design. Even though the case looks cheap due to the plastic used in its construction, the headphones are of high quality and designed to fit perfectly in your ears, making them ideal for dynamic activities such as running, biking, or exercising.

While the charging case does not come with a charger, it can be easily charged using a USB-C cable. The glowing inscription of the word “ONEPLUS” on the case could have been better designed, but it does not detract from the overall quality of the headphones.

Specification –

The OnePlus Buds Pro are incredibly lightweight, weighing only 4.35 grams, making them barely noticeable after a while of putting them in your ears. The case that comes with the earbuds weighs 52 grams, so it can easily fit into small pockets such as those on tight pants. The earbuds have a frequency response range of 20-20,000 Hz. They meet the IP55 standard for water and dust resistance, while the case has an IPX4 rating. These earbuds use Bluetooth version 5.2, and the manufacturer claims that delays do not exceed 94 ms when in Pro Gaming mode on OnePlus phones. The earbuds are equipped with 11mm drivers and three noise reduction modes (Faint, Smart, and Extreme), which can provide an attenuation range of 15 dB to 40 dB. The ANC feature can be easily turned on and off by pressing the earbud tip, similar to how you would control your music player.

When we don’t have a OnePlus, Oppo, or Realme smartphone, we need to download the HeyMelody app (available for iOS) to access all of the features offered by the OnePlus Buds Pro.

Sound quality

TWS headphones may not be the ideal choice for audiophiles who seek high-quality sound, but in recent years, there has been a significant improvement in the audio performance they offer. The OnePlus Buds Pro, for instance, offers sound quality that is at par with the AirPods Pro, which I use almost every day. The bass is potent and does not distort even at loud volumes. The OnePlus Buds Pro also provides a spacious soundstage that was previously only found in larger over-ear headphones. By using the OnePlus Audio ID test, we can virtually place the headphones under ourselves. Additionally, the OnePlus Buds Pro comes with a unique feature that creates a hearing profile for us, allowing the headphones to tailor sound reproduction based on our preferences.

The active noise cancellation (ANC) feature of the headphones works really well. However, in situations where there is powerful noise, like on a busy street, the headphones may not cancel all unwanted sounds. Nonetheless, the difference in the level of noise reduction is noticeable. When using the headphones at home or in the office, we will not hear any ambient noises or voices except for the music we listen to. Additionally, instead of music, we can also choose from a variety of relaxing sounds offered by the Zen Mode ID service, such as the sounds of a picnic, sea, or summer.

Battery life

Each headphone in the OnePlus Buds Pro is equipped with a 40 mAh battery, while the charging case comes with a 520 mAh battery. To enjoy up to 2 hours of playtime, charge the headphones for just 10 minutes. The charging case can be charged using a USB-C cable or wirelessly in the Qi9 standard. With ANC enabled, the headphones can last up to 5 hours on a single charge, which can be extended to 6-7 hours when ANC is off. This means that OnePlus Buds Pro can keep us entertained during long flights. It takes about 30 minutes to charge the case to 100%, using the Warp Charge charger.

Conclusion

The market for TWS headphones is crowded, with offerings from top brands like Apple, Samsung, Sony, and OPPO, as well as budget options from Xiaomi and realme. In this crowded market, the OnePlus Buds Pro will have to compete for customers’ attention. However, fans of the OnePlus brand will likely be drawn to these headphones, as they are optimized to work seamlessly with OnePlus smartphones, featuring Dolby Atmos and no need for additional apps. The OnePlus Buds Pro delivers excellent sound quality, a sleek design, and effective ANC, making them a solid choice. Additionally, they offer great-quality for voice calls.

We love: sound quality and ANC

We don’t like: the lack of originality of the idea – this is another carbon copy of Apple’s idea
