Introduction
Logitech has refreshed its G Pro keyboard, now named G Pro X TKL Lightspeed, to bring wireless functionality while retaining the compact design of its predecessor. Priced at €230 upon release, it faces competition from the more affordable G715 at €145. In this review, we’ll explore whether the investment in the G Pro X TKL Lightspeed is justified.
Design and Build
The G Pro X TKL Lightspeed boasts a sturdy and rigid build, radiating durability. It maintains a compact form factor, measuring 35.2 x 15 x 3.4 cm, thanks to its tenkeyless design (without a numeric keypad). This compact size makes it highly portable, weighing just 916 g. Moreover, it provides ample desk space, particularly advantageous for gaming, as it offers more room for mouse movements than full-size keyboards.
While resembling the G715, it lacks RGB lighting on the sides and the cloud wristrest, a notable omission. This absence of a wrist rest may not be ideal, given the keyboard’s key height, which could strain your wrists during extended use. Additionally, hot-swappable switches, a feature increasingly found in high-end keyboards for customization and repair, are absent.
The keyboard features customizable per-key backlighting through Logitech G Hub software, allowing users to create lighting effects or choose from pre-set options. The software also enables the customization of shortcuts and macro recording. The keyboard offers two adjustable levels with foldable feet, non-slip pads, and a dedicated slot for the 2.4 GHz receiver. A charging cable, an adapter for switching between wireless and wired connections, and a carrying case are included, enhancing portability.
Switch Options
The Azerty version of the keyboard comes with brown tactile switches. However, clicky or linear models can be selected with the Qwerty layout. Logitech employs their proprietary GX Brown switches, similar to Cherry MX Brown switches. These switches have a 4 mm total stroke, an activation point of 1.9 mm, and a required activation force of 60 N.
Typing on this keyboard is efficient, offering responsive feedback and the typical tactile sensation of this switch type. Notably, the keyboard produces no audible resonance, a significant advantage over some competing models. However, it remains somewhat noisy, typical of mechanical keyboards without silent switches.
Conclusion
The G Pro X TKL Lightspeed, with its PBT keycaps and customization options, stands as a high-end keyboard that delivers a satisfying gaming experience. However, compared to competitors, it lacks a few features, such as more metal construction, a palm rest, and hot-swappable switches. Despite these minor drawbacks, it offers a solid gaming performance for those prioritizing portability and responsiveness.
